Mestinon 60 mg tablets for myasthenia gravis; it helps restore normal muscle function by inhibiting the enzyme cholinesterase, whose activity increases in myasthenia gravis.
Mestinon contains the active ingredient pyridostigmine bromide, a cholinesterase inhibitor that blocks the excessive activity of cholinesterase, helping the muscles work properly.
Mestinon is used to treat:
Myasthenia gravis.
Rare types of constipation (paralytic ileus).
Difficulty urinating after surgery.
pyridostigmine dose for myasthenia gravis: 30 – 120 mg, 5 or 6 times daily, as prescribed by the doctor.
For children under 6 years: starting dose is 30 mg daily.
For children 6 – 12 years: starting dose is 60 mg daily.
The drug takes 30 – 60 minutes to start working.
Mestinon may cause some side effects, such as:
Low blood pressure.
Blurred vision.
Nausea.
Diarrhea.
Stomach upset.
Muscle weakness.
Excessive sweating.
Sudden, compelling urge to urinate.
Mestinon 60 should not be used in cases of:
Hypersensitivity to its components.
