Composition of Ngenla

Each Ngenla pen contains the active ingredient somatrogon, a modified form of human growth hormone that promotes bone and muscle growth.

Indications for Ngenla 24 mg Pen

Ngenla is used in children and adolescents from 3 years of age who are not growing properly due to growth hormone deficiency.

Ngenla dosing

  • The doctor determines the appropriate dose of Ngenla 24 mg pen.

  • The usual dose is 0.66 mg per kilogram of body weight, administered once weekly.

  • Ngenla injections are given subcutaneously (under the skin), not intramuscularly or intravenously.

  • The injection can be administered in the abdomen, thighs, or upper arm.

  • It is recommended to rotate the injection site with each dose.

Ngenla injections side effects

Ngenla injections may cause some side effects, such as:

  • Headache

  • Bleeding

  • Redness or pain at the injection site

  • Fever

  • Low red blood cell count

  • Decreased thyroid hormone levels

  • Allergic conjunctivitis

  • Joint pain

Contraindications

Ngenla injections should not be used in cases of:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of its components

  • Cancer

  • When growth has stopped due to closed epiphyses (end of bone growth)

  • Severe illness, such as complications following open-heart or abdominal surgery, the need for major surgery, or conditions requiring hospitalization

Warnings and Precautions

Caution should be taken before using Ngenla, especially in cases of:

  • Concurrent treatment with corticosteroid injections

  • Prader-Willi syndrome

  • Scoliosis

  • Stopping oral contraceptives or estrogen replacement therapy

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During treatment, it is important to:

  • Monitor thyroid function regularly

  • Check blood sugar levels

  • Watch for symptoms at the beginning of treatment, such as vision changes, severe or recurring headache, nausea, vomiting, poor muscle control, difficulty speaking, eye movement problems, or swallowing difficulty, as these may indicate increased intracranial pressure

Drug Interactions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Ngenla pen with any other medication, especially:

  • Corticosteroids

  • Insulin or diabetes medications

  • Thyroid hormones

  • Oral estrogen

  • Cyclosporine

  • Epilepsy medications

Storage Instructions

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • Store in a refrigerator at 2–8 °C

  • It may be removed from the refrigerator before use and kept at room temperature (up to 32 °C) for no longer than 4 hours

  • The pre-filled pen should not be used more than 28 days after first use
