XOLA EYE DROP

What is dorzolamide and what it is used for:

This product consists of dorzolamide which is a medicine that belongs to a class of medicines known as ""carbonic anhydrase inhibitors"".

It is used to lower high pressure in the eye and treat glaucoma.

It can be given alone or in combination with other medicines known as beta-blockers that can reduce pressure in the eye.

Do not use dorzolamide:

If you are allergic to dorzolamide or any of the ingredients in this medicine.

Tell your doctor about your allergies and signs.

If you have severe kidney problems, or a previous history of kidney stones.

Warnings and precautions:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about any medical problems you have or have had, including eye problems, eye surgery, and any allergies to any medications.

Talk to your doctor right away if you develop any eye irritation or any new eye problems such as swelling or redness of the eyes or eyelids.

Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have any liver problems.

This product contains a preservative known as benzalkonium chloride which can affect the color of your soft contact lenses and may also cause eye irritation especially if you have corneal problems or dry eyes, so be sure to remove your soft contact lens before applying eye drops.

Wait at least 15 minutes before putting back your contact lenses.

Possible side effects:

Very common side effects include burning and stinging in the eyes.

Common side effects: itchy eye discharge, nausea, corneal disease with inflammation in the eye and blurred vision (superficial punctate keratitis), blurred vision, eyelid irritation or inflammation, headache, fatigue and a bitter taste.

Other medicines and dorzolamide:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any medications, including eye drops (especially carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as acetazolamide).

If you are using more than one eye drop solution, be sure to administer each at least five minutes apart to avoid precipitating the eye drop.

How to use Dorzolamide:

children:

This medicine has been studied in infants and children younger than 6 years of age who had high intraocular pressure or had glaucoma.

Talk to your doctor for advice.

the elderly :

The effects of this medicine have been shown to be the same in both the elderly and younger patients.

The recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) in the morning, afternoon and evening when taken alone.

Use the eye drops solution as directed by your doctor.

Do not put eye drops in both eyes unless prescribed by your doctor.

The recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) in the morning and in the evening when your doctor prescribes a beta-blocker eye drop with this medicine.

Ask your doctor if you are not sure how to use the eye drops.

Use your medication exactly as your doctor has prescribed it.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Open the packaging bag of the bottle immediately before using it for the first time and write the date of opening on the carton in the space provided.

Do not open the packaging bag until you need to use the bottle.

wash your hands.

Remove the bottle cap.

Tilt your head back slightly and pull the lower eyelid down to make a pocket.

Place the drops over the eye with the tip pointing down.

Look up and away from the bottle.

Avoid contact of the eye drop tip with the eye or other surfaces to prevent bacterial contamination that could lead to eye infection and serious eye damage.

Then tap the container to release the drop.

Leave the lower eyelid and close the eyes for two minutes.

If you miss an eye drop, repeat the steps.

Wipe any excess drops off your cheeks.

Repeat the steps for the other eye if your doctor tells you to put your medication in both eyes.

Close the bottle cap tightly when you have finished using it.

Call your doctor if you suspect that your eye drops are contaminated.

If you use more than one eye drop solution, be sure to take each at least ten minutes apart.

How to store dorzolamide:

Throw away the bottle 4 weeks after opening, even if it is not empty, and use a new bottle.

Write the date you opened the bottle (first time) on the space provided on the carton.

Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and pets.

Do not use the medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton.

Keep the medicine away from light.

Do not throw the medicine into wastewater or household waste.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need.
