Gliptamet 50/1000 ingredients

Gliptamet drug contains:

  • 50 mg sitagliptin: Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 "DPP-4" inhibitor, the enzyme that breaks down incretins, hormones released by the body after meal and stimulates pancreas to release insulin. By increasing their blood levels through the drug, the pancreas is furtherly stimulated to secrete more insulin.

  • 1000 mg of metformin: reduces blood sugar levels by reducing the production of glucose by the liver, increasing muscle sensitivity to insulin, and delaying intestinal glucose absorption.

Gliptamet 50/1000 uses

Gliptamet is prescribed along with exercise and diet to improve blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes if the drug is suitable for them.

Gliptamet 50/1000 dose

  • Dosage is preferred based on the patient's needs.

  • Usual dosage: 2 tablets per day, one in the morning, one in the evening.

  • Gliptamet is preferred after meals.

  • It is not recommended to take more than 2 tablets of Sinemet per day.

  • The dose may vary if the drug is used with other diabetes medications, depending on the type of drug used, in order to avoid a drop in blood sugar levels.

Gliptamet contraindications

Gliptamet is not used in the case of:

  • Severe kidney failure.

  • Severe conditions that may impair kidney function, such as dehydration, severe infection or trauma.

  • Heart or respiratory failure.

  • Recent acute myocardial infarction.

  • liver failure.

  • Acute alcohol toxicity.

  • breastfeeding.

Precautions

  • Gliptamet is not a substitute for insulin, especially in patients whose diabetes treatment is based on insulin.

  • Gliptamet is not used for type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.

  • The drug is used with caution in case of kidney failure, and should be discontinued in case of severe kidney failure

  • Gliptamet is not used in case of liver failure.

  • The drug may increase the risk of acute pancreatitis, and care should be taken before using it for those who have previously developed pancreatitis.

  • You should stop taking Gliptamet prior to surgery requiring anesthesia, and resume taking it at least 48 hours after the operation or with the resumption of oral nutrition.

Gliptamet and pregnancy

There is insufficient data on the effect of the active substance during pregnancy, so it is not recommended to take Gliptamet during pregnancy.

Gliptamet and lactation

Gliptamet is not taken during breastfeeding, especially since the active substance metformin may be transmitted through breast milk and lead to lower blood sugar levels in the infant.

Drug interactions

The doctor should be consulted before taking Gliptamet along with any other medication, especially:

  • Digoxin.

  • Warfarin.

  • Blood pressure drugs.

Preservation and storage of the drug

  • Keep out of children's reach.
