Galvus MET 50/850 ingredients

GalvusMet drug contains:

  • 50 mg vildagliptin: Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 "DPP-4" inhibitor, the enzyme that breaks down incretins, hormones released by the body after meal and stimulates pancreas to release insulin. By increasing their blood levels through the drug, the pancreas is furtherly stimulated to secrete more insulin.

  • 850 mg of metformin: reduces blood sugar levels by reducing the production of glucose by the liver, increasing muscle sensitivity to insulin, and delaying intestinal glucose absorption.

What is Galvus met 50mg used for?

GalvusMet is prescribed an adjunctive treatment along with exercise and diet to improve blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, and may be used:

  • In patients who cannot control blood sugar levels by metformin only.

  • Patients who receive vildagliptin and metformin each in a different tablet.

  • With other drugs used in the treatment of diabetes, including insulin.

Galvus met 50/850 dose

  • Usual dosage: 2 tablets per day, one in the morning, one in the evening.

  • It is not recommended to take more than 2 tablets of Galvus Met per day.

  • The dose may vary if the drug is used with other diabetes medications, depending on the type of drug used, in order to avoid a drop in blood sugar levels.

  • Galvus Met is preferred after meals to relieve gastrointestinal symptoms.

  • Severe conditions that may impair kidney function, such as dehydration, severe infection or trauma.

  • Heart or respiratory failure.

  • Recent acute myocardial infarction.

  • liver failure.

  • Acute alcohol toxicity.

  • breastfeeding.

Precautions

  • Galvus Met is not a substitute for insulin, especially in patients whose diabetes treatment is based on insulin.

  • Galvus Met is not used for type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.

  • The drug is used with caution in case of kidney failure, and should be discontinued in case of severe kidney failure

  • Galvs is not used in case of liver failure, and liver enzymes must be tested before and during the use of the drug.

  • The drug may increase the risk of acute pancreatitis, and care should be taken before using it for those who have previously developed pancreatitis.

  • You should stop taking Galvus Met prior to surgery requiring anesthesia, and resume taking it at least 48 hours after the operation or with the resumption of oral nutrition.

Galvus Met and pregnancy

There is insufficient data on the effect of the active substance during pregnancy, so it is not recommended to take Galvus Met during pregnancy.

Galvus Met and lactation

Galvus Met is not taken during breastfeeding, especially since the active substance metformin may be transmitted through breast milk and lead to lower blood sugar levels in the infant.

Drug interactions

The doctor should be consulted before taking Galvus Met along with any other medication, especially:

  • Digoxin.

  • Warfarin.

  • Blood pressure drugs.
