What is Gentacin 0.3% eye drops used for?

Gentacin is an antibiotic drop of the eye, containing the antibiotic “gentamicin", used in the treatment of bacterial eye infection as well as the ear.

Gentacin eye drops dosage

  • You should follow the doctor's instructions on how to use a gentacine drop.

  • Eye: 1 - 2 drops in the affected eye every 4 hours.

  • For ear: the area should be cleaned thoroughly, then put 2 - 4 drops 3 - 4 times per day.

  • Hands should be washed thoroughly before using the drop.

  • Contact lenses must be removed before placing a drop of gentacin, and can be worn again after 15 minutes of using the drop.

Side Effects

  • Ear injury, which may cause problems of balance or hearing loss.

  • Lack of urination or presence of blood with urine.

  • Eye or ear sensitivity.

  • Temporarily irritating the eye or ear.

  • Blurred vision.

Contraindications

Gentacin drop is not used in case of:

  • sensitivity to its ingredients.

  • Do not use it in the ear if the eardrum is perforated.

  • Myasthenia gravis.

Precautions

  • Avoid using gentacin drop for a long time.

  • Severe infections may require the use of a systemic antibiotic along with gentacin.

  • Care should be taken before using a drop of gentacin for the ear in case of kidney, liver diseases or old age.

Drug interactions

A doctor should be consulted before using a gentacin drop along with any other medication, especially:

  • Antibiotics.

  • Diuretics.

  • Some muscle relaxants.

Preservation and storage of the drug

  • Keep out of children's reach.

  • Keep away from light at a temperature below 30 ° C.

  • Drop is not used after expiry date.

  • Used within a month from the opening of the packaging.
