Mechanism of Action of Loperamide 2 mg Capsules

It helps reduce diarrhea by slowing down an overactive bowel, which helps the body absorb water and salt from this organ, resulting in harder and less frequent stools

USES of Imodium Capsules

Loperamide is used to treat sudden short-term (acute) diarrhea and long-term (chronic) diarrhea in adults and children over 9 years of age.

Diarrhea: Loose, watery stools, possibly more frequent bowel movements (more than 3 times per day)

Dose &administration of Imodium:

Transient (acute) diarrhea:

Adults and children over 12 years: Start with two capsules, then take one capsule after each episode of diarrhea for up to 5 days.

Do not take more than 8 capsules in 24 hours.

Children 9-12 years: Take 1 capsule 4 times daily until diarrhea is controlled or for up to 5 days.

Never take more than this dose.

Children under 9 years of age: Do not give this medicine to children under 9 years of age.

prolonged (chronic) diarrhea

Adults only: Your doctor will tell you how much loperamide to take.

The starting dose may be two to four capsules in divided doses per day, but this depends on the individual needs.

The dosage may be altered in special cases, so always follow the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more than you should, consult your doctor or go to a hospital right away.
