Product Description:

ZOVIRAX Cream is indicated for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin including primary and recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis.

Do not use in the eye.

Zovirax cream is a medicine used to treat the symptoms of cold sores (herpes labialis) and genital herpes.

Acyclovir cream can be used alone or with other medicines.

Zovirax cream belongs to a class of medicines called antivirals.

It is not known if acyclovir cream is safe and effective in children younger than 12 years old.

Usage Instructions:

ZOVIRAX Cream should be used 5 times daily for 4 days.

Treatment should begin as soon as possible after signs or symptoms of herpes labialis appear, ie during the prodrome or when lesions appear.

For adolescents 12 years of age and older, the dose is the same as for adults.

Use the cream for at least 5 days.

If the genital herpes sore has not healed by this time, you can continue to use the cream for another 5 days.

If the affected area has not healed after a total of 10 days, stop using the cream and tell your doctor.

Warnings and precautions:

Zovirax cream is not recommended for use on mucous membranes such as the mouth, eyes, or vagina because it may be an irritant.

Particular care must be taken to avoid accidental entry into the eye.

In severely immunocompromised patients (eg: AIDS patients or bone marrow transplant recipients), oral acyclovir should be taken. These patients should be encouraged to consult a physician regarding the treatment of any infection.

Zovirax cream contains a specially formulated basis and should not be diluted or used as a basis for the introduction of other drugs.

excipients

Excipient cetostearyl alcohol can cause local skin reactions (eg contact dermatitis).

This medicine contains 400 mg of propylene glycol per gram of product. Propylene glycol may cause skin irritation.

Do not use this medicine on a newborn with open wounds or large areas of broken or damaged skin (eg, burns).

This medicine contains 7.5 mg of sodium laurylsulfate per gram of product. Sodium laurylsulfate may cause local skin reactions (such as stinging or a burning sensation) or exacerbate skin reactions caused by other products when applied to the same area.
