Xigduo Xr 5/500 Mg 28 Tablet is a medication that contains two active ingredients: Dapagliflozin (5 mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride (500 mg) in an extended-release tablet form. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults, especially when blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled with metformin alone.
Xigduo XR is used to improve blood sugar control in adults and children (from 10 years of age) with type 2 diabetes. It should be taken alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise.
It contains a combination of dapagliflozin and metformin:
Dapagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess sugar from the blood.
Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and limits its absorption in the intestines.
Xigduo XR reduces the risk of hospitalization due to heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes and heart disease, as well as those with chronic kidney disease.
It also helps lower the risk of kidney disease complications and death due to heart disease.
It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes.
