Tegretol 2% Syrup 100 ml is a medication used to prevent seizures. It is intended for children aged one year and older, as well as for adults. It also helps relieve trigeminal neuralgia pain.
Tegretol syrup contains the active ingredient carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant drug that prevents seizures and also helps relieve pain.
Tegretol syrup is used in the treatment of:
Certain types of epilepsy.
Pain relief caused by trigeminal neuralgia.
Managing severe mood disorders when other medications have failed.
The appropriate dose of Tegretol is determined by the doctor.
Adult dosage: 800–1200 mg per day.
Children aged 1 year and above: 10–20 mg per kilogram of body weight per day, divided into multiple doses.
For trigeminal neuralgia: 600–800 mg per day, with a maximum allowable dose of 1200 mg per day.
For mood disorders: 400–600 mg per day.
Tegretol syrup may cause some side effects, such as:
Decreased white blood cell count
Dizziness
Fatigue
Changes in liver enzyme levels
Increased risk of bleeding or bruising
Fluid retention in the body
Weight gain
Headache
Blurred vision
Dry mouth
Tegretol syrup should not be used in the following cases:
Hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients
Heart problems
Bone marrow disorders
Porphyria
Use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the past 14 days
