ORS 10 Sachets is an oral rehydration salts solution that helps replace fluids and electrolytes lost by the body, particularly during diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. It contains a balanced combination of salts and glucose that helps promote fluid absorption and replenish some of the electrolytes lost from the body.

How to Use ORS

• Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 1 liter of clean water.

• Use exactly the recommended amount of water. Do not increase or decrease the amount, as an incorrect concentration may affect fluid and electrolyte balance.

• The solution should be given after each loose stool. The appropriate amount varies depending on the person’s age and the degree of fluid loss.

• For children aged 2 to 10 years: 100–200 mL after each loose stool. Children over 10 years and adults may require 200–400 mL after each loose stool, depending on their condition.

• Do not mix ORS with milk, juice, sugar, or any other additives. Use water only to prepare the solution.

Contraindications

• ORS should not be used without medical advice in cases of intestinal obstruction or ileus, or when the patient is unable to take fluids orally.

• Medical advice should also be sought in cases of severe dehydration or severe diarrhea, particularly when the patient is unable to drink fluids.

Precautions and Warnings

• Consult your doctor before use if you have kidney or liver disease or diabetes.

• Use with caution in individuals following a low-sodium or low-potassium diet.

• If diarrhea is severe or persists for an extended period, or if clear signs of dehydration develop, seek medical attention.

• ORS should not be relied upon alone in cases of severe dehydration requiring medical assessment and treatment.

Storage

• Store the product in a dry place at a suitable temperature, away from moisture and direct heat, and out of the reach of children.

• After preparation, store the solution according to the instructions on the package and use it within the recommended period rather than keeping it for an extended time.

ORS Ingredients

Each sachet contains:

• Sodium chloride: 3.5 g.

• Potassium chloride: 1.5 g.

• Trisodium citrate: 2.9 g.

• Anhydrous dextrose: 20 g.

Does ORS Stop Diarrhea?

ORS helps replace the fluids and electrolytes lost due to diarrhea, but it does not treat the underlying cause of diarrhea, which may include food poisoning, gastroenteritis, or other conditions.
