Optiflox Eye Drops 5 ml is a sterile ophthalmic solution that contains the active ingredient ofloxacin, an antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone class. It is used to treat certain types of bacterial eye infections, such as bacterial conjunctivitis and bacterial corneal ulcers.
Ofloxacin works by stopping the growth of infection-causing bacteria and limiting their multiplication, helping to control inflammation and improve symptoms of infection. This eye drop is not used to treat viral or fungal eye infections and should be used under medical supervision according to the doctor’s diagnosis.
Why are Optiflox Eye Drops used?
Optiflox Eye Drops are used to treat bacterial eye infections that are sensitive to the active ingredient ofloxacin. Common uses include:
-
Treating bacterial conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the clear membrane covering the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelid, which may be accompanied by redness, discharge, and irritation.
-
Treating bacterial corneal ulcers, an infection affecting the cornea that requires close medical follow-up to help prevent complications.
-
Helping reduce symptoms of bacterial eye infection, such as redness, discharge, irritation, discomfort, or the feeling of a foreign body in the eye, depending on the condition and the doctor’s instructions.
Optiflox Eye Drops Dosage and Method of Use
-
Optiflox Eye Drops are for ophthalmic use only. The dose and duration of treatment should be followed exactly as prescribed by the doctor, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
-
In cases of bacterial conjunctivitis, the doctor may recommend applying one drop into the affected eye every two to four hours while awake at the beginning of treatment, then reducing the dose later according to improvement and medical guidance.
-
In cases of bacterial corneal ulcers, the dose may need to be repeated more frequently during the first few days. Therefore, the doctor’s instructions must be followed carefully, and the dose should not be changed or the treatment stopped without medical advice.
