  • Are allergic to isoniazid or any of its ingredients.

  • Have had liver problems caused by another medication.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using isoniazid if you:

  • Have liver or kidney problems.

  • Consume large amounts of alcohol (it is best to avoid alcohol during treatment).

  • Have diabetes, extrapulmonary TB, or HIV.

  • Suffer from mental illness, malnutrition, epilepsy, or seizures.

  • Take medications such as itraconazole (antifungal), which is not recommended with isoniazid.

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including herbs and supplements, as isoniazid may interact with many drugs, such as:

  • Other TB drugs (e.g., rifampicin, cycloserine).

  • Epilepsy drugs (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin).

  • HIV medications (e.g., stavudine).

  • Medicines for anxiety, asthma, blood pressure, Parkinson’s disease, and fungal infections (e.g., ketoconazole).

  • Vitamin B6 and B3 supplements.
