Entresto contains:
Sacubitril:A neprilysin inhibitor. Neprilysin is an enzyme that breaks down beneficial peptides, and the active ingredient helps preserve these proteins, which remove sodium and fluids from the body, helping the heart work more easily.
Valsartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that helps relax blood vessels and reduce high blood pressure.
Entresto is used to:
Reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization in adult patients with chronic heart failure.
Treat symptomatic heart failure with systemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction in children aged one year and older.
Adult starting dose: 49/51 mg twice daily.
Maintenance dose: 97/103 mg twice daily.
Adult doses should be adjusted every 2 to 4 weeks to reach the target dose as determined by the doctor.
The doctor may reduce the starting dose by half in some cases, such as kidney or liver impairment.
Low blood pressure
Low potassium levels
Cough
Dizziness
Kidney failure
Entresto should not be used in cases of:
Hypersensitivity to any of its components
A history of angioedema related to ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers
Concurrent use of ACE inhibitors
Use of aliskiren in patients with diabetes
