Citoxal Ingredients

Each Citoxal tablet contains 10 mg of the active ingredient "Citalopram," which belongs to a class of drugs called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). It increases serotonin levels in the nervous system, helping to treat depression.

What is the drug Citoxal used for?

Citoxal is used for adults in the treatment of:

  • Depression.

  • Panic disorder.

Citoxal Dosage

  • The doctor determines the appropriate dose based on the patient's condition.

  • Adult dose for depression: 20 mg daily; the doctor may increase this to a maximum of 40 mg.

  • Adult dose for panic disorders: 10 mg daily for the first week, then increased to 20–30 mg daily, up to a maximum of 40 mg daily.

When does Citoxal start to work?

The therapeutic effect usually appears within 2–4 weeks, but it may take longer to see clear results. For panic disorders, it may take about 3 months to achieve the full effect of the medication.

Side Effects of Citoxal

  • Headache and dizziness.

  • Drowsiness (somnolence).

  • Nausea and dry mouth.

  • Increased sweating.

  • Decreased appetite and weight loss (or increased appetite in some cases).

  • Anxiety and nervousness.

  • Decreased libido (sex drive).

Contraindications

Do not use Citoxal in the following cases:

  • Use of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days.

  • Use of medications that affect heart rhythm.
