Logynon Ingredients

Logynon is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains:

  • Ethinylestradiol (estrogen)

  • Levonorgestrel (progesterone)

These hormones prevent pregnancy together by:

  • Preventing the release of eggs from the ovary

  • Thickening the cervical mucus, which hinders sperm movement

  • Preventing the thickening of the uterine lining, making it unsuitable for the fertilized egg to grow

How to use Logynon pills?

  • The Logynon pack contains 21 tablets, each marked with a day of the week.

  • Take one Logynon tablet every day at the same time

  • Start with tablet number 1, then follow the arrows on the strip, taking one tablet each day until all 21 tablets are finished

  • After that, take a 7-day break with no tablets, then resume the next pack for another 21 days

  • Withdrawal bleeding may occur after taking the last tablet, and it may continue into the days when you are supposed to start the next pack.

When will my period return after stopping Logynon?

It is normal for the menstrual period to be absent, delayed, or irregular after stopping Logynon. It may take around 3 months for the menstrual cycle to return to normal.

Side effects of Logynon contraceptive pills

Logynon 21 tablets may cause some side effects, such as:

  • Nausea

  • Stomach pain

  • Weight gain

Contraindications for Logynon tablets

Logynon should not be used if you:

  • Have a disorder affecting blood clotting, such as protein C deficiency

  • Previously had a heart attack or stroke

  • Have angina or transient ischemic attacks

  • Have conditions that increase the risk of clots, such as severe diabetes with blood vessel damage, severe hypertension, very high cholesterol or triglycerides, or high homocysteine levels

  • Have migraine with aura

  • Have had breast cancer

  • Have severe liver disease

  • Have liver tumors

  • Are allergic to any of the ingredients of the medicine

Drug interactions

You should tell your doctor or pharmacist about any medications you are taking alongside Logynon, as some drugs may affect its effectiveness, such as:

  • Epilepsy medications

  • HIV medications

  • Antifungal medications

  • Some antibiotics

  • St. John’s Wort
