Salipax 20 mg 30 Capsules is an antidepressant containing fluoxetine 20 mg, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain, helping improve symptoms associated with certain mental health disorders. It is used under medical supervision to treat certain cases of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and bulimia nervosa. It may also be prescribed for other conditions based on medical evaluation.

How to Use Salipax 20 mg

• Use Salipax according to the dose prescribed by your doctor.

• It can be taken with or without food.

• The usual starting dose for adults with depression or OCD is 20 mg once daily. The doctor may adjust the dose according to the patient’s response.

• For the treatment of bulimia nervosa, the recommended dose may be 60 mg daily, as prescribed by the doctor.

• Swallow the capsule whole with water.

• Do not stop treatment suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Contraindications

Salipax 20 mg should not be used in the following cases:

• Allergy to fluoxetine or any of the ingredients.

• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or starting an MAOI shortly after discontinuing fluoxetine, due to the risk of serious reactions such as serotonin syndrome.

• Concomitant use with pimozide or thioridazine, due to the increased risk of cardiac rhythm disturbances and serious drug interactions.

• Concomitant use with metoprolol for the treatment of heart failure is contraindicated due to the potential risk of severe bradycardia.

• Treatment should not be initiated during an acute manic episode.

Precautions and Warnings

• Tell your doctor before using Salipax if you have liver or kidney disease, epilepsy, bipolar disorder or a history of mania, heart disease, low sodium levels, bleeding disorders, eye problems, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

• Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking to help avoid potential drug interactions.

• Antidepressants may be associated with an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors in some children, adolescents, and young adults, particularly during the early stages of treatment or after a dose change. Any significant changes in mood or behavior should be monitored closely, and medical advice should be sought promptly if they occur.

Possible Side Effects

Salipax may cause some side effects, including:

• Nausea.

• Headache.

• Dizziness.

• Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or drowsiness.

• Dry mouth.

• Increased sweating.

• Gastrointestinal disturbances.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking, especially:

• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

• Pimozide.

• Thioridazine.

• Tramadol.

• Certain migraine medicines belonging to the triptan class.

• Certain antidepressants or medicines used to treat anxiety.

• Linezolid.

• Amphetamines.

• Certain anticoagulants.

• Phenytoin.

Switching between fluoxetine and MAOIs requires specific washout periods to reduce the risk of serious interactions. Do not combine or switch between these medicines without medical supervision.

Storage

• Store Salipax at room temperature below 30°C, away from light and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.
