Resocal powder is used to treat high potassium levels (hyperkalemia) in patients with dialysis, anuria, or severe oliguria.
Resocal Powder Ingredients
A powder containing Calcium Polystyrene Sulfonate, which is an ion-exchange resin.
What is Resocal Used for?
Resocal powder is indicated for the treatment of:

Hyperkalemia associated with anuria or severe oliguria.

Hyperkalemia in patients requiring dialysis, as well as those on long-term peritoneal dialysis or regular hemodialysis.
Dosage and Administration

Resocal powder is for oral or rectal use only.

The physician determines the appropriate dose for children.
Oral Administration

Adult Standard Dose: 15 g, 3 to 4 times daily, administered as a suspension in a small amount of water.

Must be taken at least 3 hours before or after other oral medications.

In cases of gastroparesis, the interval should be extended to 6 hours.
Rectal Administration

Administered rectally in cases of vomiting or upper gastrointestinal issues that make oral intake difficult.

Dose: 30 g of powder in 150 ml of water or 10% dextrose in water, administered daily as a retention enema.

The enema must be retained for at least 9 hours, followed by a colon irrigation (cleansing) to remove the resin.
Resocal Powder Side Effects
Resocal powder may cause some side effects, including:

Vomiting and nausea.

Anorexia (loss of appetite).

Constipation.
Contraindications
Do not use Resocal powder in the following cases:

Hypersensitivity to its ingredients.

Conditions associated with hypercalcemia, such as hyperparathyroidism.

Obstructive bowel disease.

Potassium levels below 5 mmol/L.

Oral use in neonates is contraindicated.
