Ondex 4 mg/5 ml is an oral anti-nausea and anti-emetic solution containing the active ingredient Ondansetron (as ondansetron hydrochloride dihydrate) at a concentration of 4 mg per 5 ml. Ondansetron belongs to the class of selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, working to block signals that trigger nausea and vomiting.

Indications for Use

• Helps prevent nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy in adults and children.

• Helps prevent nausea and vomiting associated with radiotherapy in adults.

• Used for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in adults.

• Acts selectively on 5-HT3 serotonin receptors to reduce nausea and vomiting sensations.

• Formulated as an oral solution, making it easier to take for individuals who have difficulty swallowing tablets.

How to Use Ondex Oral Solution

Ondex should be used according to the dosage prescribed by your doctor, as dosage varies depending on the indication, age, and concurrent treatment.

• For Prevention of Chemotherapy- or Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:

• On the day of therapy: The usual adult dose is 8 mg taken 1–2 hours before treatment, followed by another 8 mg dose 12 hours later.

• On subsequent days: The usual adult dose is two teaspoons (10 ml) twice daily, which may be continued for up to 5 days.

• For Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting:

• Adults: The usual dose is 4 teaspoons (20 ml) prior to surgery.

• Children (6 months and older): For chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, dosage is determined based on age or body weight according to physician instructions.

• Use an appropriate measuring tool to ensure precise dosing.

• Do not take additional doses without medical guidance.

• May be taken with or without food, and should not be mixed with other liquids prior to ingestion.

Precautions and Warnings

• Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to ondansetron, any inactive ingredient in the formulation, or other 5-HT3 receptor antagonists.

• Contraindicated: Do not use concurrently with apomorphine.

• Inform your doctor if you have heart rhythm disorders or Long QT Syndrome.

• Use with caution in individuals with low blood levels of potassium or magnesium or other electrolyte imbalances.

• Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, as dose adjustment may be necessary.

• Inform your doctor if you have a bowel obstruction, severe slow gut motility, or severe constipation.

• Ondansetron may mask symptoms of progressive ileus or bowel obstruction.

• Inform your doctor of all medications being taken, particularly those that can affect heart rhythm.

• Consult a physician prior to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Headache.

• Constipation.

• Flushing or sensation of warmth.

• Fatigue or general discomfort.

Less common and more severe side effects may occur, such as heart rhythm disturbances, low blood pressure, or severe allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical care if you experience swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or fainting.

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all medications used before starting Ondex, particularly:

• Apomorphine: Concurrent use with ondansetron is strictly contraindicated.

• Medications affecting heart rhythm or prolonging the QT interval.

• Certain antidepressants and medications acting on the central nervous system.

• Certain anticonvulsant (epilepsy) medications.

• Rifampicin: May decrease blood concentrations of ondansetron.

• Certain cancer therapies.

Do not start or stop any other medication without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage and Handling

• Store below 25°C.

• Keep away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

• Do not freeze.

• Keep out of reach of children.

• Store in the original package.

• Use within 1 month after opening, adhering to the post-opening duration specified on the packaging or package leaflet.

Ingredients

• Active Ingredient: Ondansetron 4 mg per 5 ml (as ondansetron hydrochloride dihydrate).

• Inactive Ingredients: Anhydrous citric acid, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate dihydrate, sorbitol 70% solution, strawberry flavor, and purified water.

(Note) Each 5 ml contains approximately 2.31 g of sorbitol; this should be taken into account for individuals with rare hereditary fructose intolerance or specific sugar sensitivities.
