Minirin Melt 120 micrograms, 30 tablets, is a medicine containing the active ingredient desmopressin, a synthetic analogue of the naturally occurring hormone vasopressin. It helps reduce the amount of urine produced by the kidneys. It is available as tablets that dissolve under the tongue and is used by prescription to treat certain cases of nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting). It is also used to treat central diabetes insipidus, according to the physician’s assessment.

Minirin Melt 120 how to use

• Place the tablet under the tongue and allow it to dissolve. Water is not required.

• For the treatment of nocturnal enuresis, the usual dose for adults and children suitable for treatment is 120 micrograms before bedtime. The doctor may increase the dose to 240 micrograms depending on the response to treatment.

• Follow the dose prescribed by your doctor and do not change the dose on your own.

• Fluid intake should be restricted from 1 hour before taking the dose until 8 hours afterward.

• The recommended treatment duration should not exceed 3 months, followed by a reassessment of the need for continued treatment after a treatment break of at least one week.

Precautions and Warnings

• Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding fluid intake while using this medicine, as excessive fluid intake may increase the risk of low blood sodium levels (hyponatremia).

• Use with caution in people with kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, or conditions affecting fluid and electrolyte balance.

• Treatment is not recommended to be initiated in patients over 65 years of age. If treatment is considered necessary, blood sodium levels should be measured before starting treatment and 3 days after starting treatment or increasing the dose.

• Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to desmopressin or any of its ingredients.

Minirin Melt 120 side effects

Minirin Melt may cause some side effects, including:

• Headache.

• Drowsiness or dizziness.

• Swelling of the limbs.

• Fatigue.

In rare cases, low blood sodium levels (hyponatremia) may occur due to water retention. Symptoms may include:

Drug Interactions

Minirin Melt may interact with certain medicines and increase the risk of fluid retention and low blood sodium levels. These include:

• Chlorpromazine.

• Carbamazepine.

• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

• Loperamide, which is used to treat diarrhea.

Note: Taking a high-fat meal (27% fat) reduces the absorption of the medicine and may reduce the intensity and duration of its antidiuretic effect.

Storage

• Store the medicine in its original package to protect it from moisture and light, in a cool, dry place at a temperature below 25°C.

• Avoid storing it in the bathroom or near sources of heat and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children.
