Description

Lisino 5 mg is a medicine that contains the active ingredient lisinopril, which belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by helping to widen the blood vessels and lower blood pressure, which reduces the workload on the heart and helps improve blood flow throughout the body. It should be used only under medical supervision.

What is Lisino 5mg used for?

Lisino is used to help treat or control the following conditions:

  • High blood pressure.

  • Heart failure, as an add-on treatment within the treatment plan prescribed by the doctor.

  • After myocardial infarction or heart attack, in certain cases and under close medical supervision.

  • Diabetic nephropathy, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes who have high blood pressure and microalbuminuria.

  • The medicine may help lower blood pressure, reduce strain on the heart, and support kidney protection in some patients with diabetes, according to the doctor’s evaluation.

How to use

  • Lisino is taken by mouth according to the dose prescribed by the doctor. The dose may vary depending on the patient’s medical condition, age, kidney function, and other medicines being used.

  • In adults with high blood pressure, the doctor may often start with a dose of 10 mg once daily. The first dose may preferably be taken at bedtime to reduce the possibility of a sudden drop in blood pressure.

  • In some cases, such as patients with kidney impairment, fluid depletion, or those using diuretics, the doctor may start with a lower dose.

  • The medicine can be taken with or without food.

  • The prescribed dose should be followed carefully. Do not increase the dose or stop taking the medicine without consulting the doctor.

  • If the patient experiences severe dizziness, fainting, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat, medical attention should be sought immediately.

Side effects

Lisino may cause some side effects, although not all patients will experience them. Common side effects may include:

  • Heart disease or narrowing of the heart valves.

  • Immune system disorders or connective tissue diseases.

  • A previous history of angioedema.

  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. It should also not be used in children with severely reduced glomerular filtration rate unless evaluated by a doctor.

  • The medicine may cause dizziness or low blood pressure, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, especially at the beginning of treatment or when the dose is adjusted.

  • This medicine must not be used during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters. It should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is discovered, and the doctor should be consulted to choose a suitable alternative.

  • It is not recommended during breastfeeding, as it is not known whether it passes into breast milk.

Drug interactions

The doctor or pharmacist should be informed about all medicines and supplements the patient is using before starting treatment, especially:

  • Diuretics, as they may increase the blood pressure-lowering effect.

  • Potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium.

  • Potassium-sparing diuretics, as they may increase the risk of high potassium levels in the blood.

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, as they may reduce the effect of the medicine and increase the possibility of kidney function problems.

  • Lithium medicines, as Lisino may increase lithium levels in the blood and raise the risk of toxicity.

  • Aliskiren, especially in patients with diabetes or kidney impairment, due to the increased risk of low blood pressure, high potassium levels, and kidney function problems.

  • Some medically used gold preparations, as they may increase the possibility of unwanted reactions.

Storage

  • Store the medicine at a suitable temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
