What is Attencare?

Attencare 25 mg is a medication used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It contains the active ingredient atomoxetine hydrochloride, equivalent to 25 mg of atomoxetine per capsule. Belonging to the class of selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), atomoxetine helps improve attention span and reduce symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity. It is prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment program that may include psychological, behavioral, and educational interventions.

Benefits and Uses of Attencare 25 mg 30 capsules

  • Helps treat ADHD symptoms in children aged 6 years and older, adolescents, and adults.

  • Enhances the ability to focus and maintain attention.

  • May help reduce hyperactivity and impulsive behavior associated with ADHD.

  • Increases the availability of norepinephrine in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake.

  • Non-stimulant medication and is not derived from amphetamines.

  • Used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes behavioral, psychological, and educational therapies as needed.

How to Use

  • The dosage is determined by a physician based on the patient's age, body weight, and clinical response.

  • Atomoxetine can be taken once daily in the morning, or divided into two doses (morning and late afternoon/early evening).

  • For children and adolescents up to 70 kg: Treatment usually starts at approximately 0.5 mg/kg daily, which may be increased gradually after at least one week based on response and tolerability, aiming for a target dose of around 1.2 mg/kg daily.

  • For patients over 70 kg and adults: Treatment usually starts at 40 mg daily and can be gradually increased as directed by a doctor.

  • Adults: Initial dose is 40 mg daily for at least 7 days, then increased to the usual maintenance dose of 80–100 mg daily. The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

  • Capsules can be taken with or without food.

  • Capsules must be swallowed whole; do not open or empty their contents.

  • Not indicated for children under 6 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established in this age group.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to atomoxetine or any component of the medication.

  • Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs); allow at least 2 weeks between stopping an MAOI and starting atomoxetine.

  • Blood pressure and heart rate should be evaluated before starting therapy and monitored periodically during treatment.

  • Inform your doctor if you have underlying heart disease, high blood pressure, or heart rhythm disorders.

  • Use with caution in patients with a history of fainting, cardiac conditions, or risk factors for QT prolongation.

  • Inform your physician if you have liver disease; dosage reduction may be necessary for moderate to severe hepatic impairment.

  • Treatment may be associated with changes in mood or behavior, including suicidal ideation in some children and adolescents; report any unusual behavior or mood changes immediately.

  • Promptly inform your doctor if new or unexpected psychiatric symptoms develop, such as severe agitation, aggressiveness, or hallucinations.

  • May affect appetite, weight, and growth in children and adolescents; regular monitoring of height and weight may be required.

  • May cause dizziness or drowsiness; exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you.

  • Do not open the capsule; atomoxetine powder can cause eye irritation. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse immediately with water and seek medical advice.
