Enemacort Enema 0.02 Mg/mL is a topical corticosteroid medication used to treat mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease affecting the rectum and colon. It offers localized relief from rectal inflammation and associated symptoms like pain, urgency, and bloody stools.

Active Ingredients:

Budesonide 0.02mg/mL: This is the primary active ingredient, a corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation in the colon and rectum.

Dosage Form:

Enema: A pre-measured liquid suspension administered directly into the rectum using a disposable applicator.

Mechanism of Action:

Budesonide binds to specific receptors in the colon and rectum, inhibiting inflammatory processes. This reduces swelling, redness, and irritation, alleviating symptoms and promoting healing.

Therapeutic Indications:

Mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis affecting the rectum and sigmoid colon.

Not intended for severe or extensive ulcerative colitis.

Method of Administration:

Follow the instructions on the package or as directed by your doctor.

Generally, one enema is used daily or every other day for up to 4 weeks.

Warm the enema to room temperature before use.

Lie on your side with your knees bent and gently insert the applicator into the rectum.

Squeeze the applicator completely to release the medication and hold for 15-30 minutes to maximize absorption.

Dispose of the applicator properly after use.

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice:

Dietary adjustments: Identify and avoid trigger foods that worsen symptoms.

Stress management: Implement relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation to manage stress-induced flares.

Regular exercise: Gentle physical activity can improve overall health and well-being.

Hydration: Maintain adequate fluid intake to prevent dehydration, especially during flare-ups.

Smoking cessation: Smoking can worsen ulcerative colitis symptoms. Quitting smoking can significantly improve overall health and treatment outcomes.

Additional Information:

Enemacort Enema is available by prescription only.

It is important to inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as potential interactions may occur.

Do not use Enemacort Enema if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a known allergy to budesonide or any other ingredients in the medication.
