Nestlé Combat Gravity Compact 1.5L is a complete gravity feeding range designed to deliver enteral nutrition safely and effectively. This kit consists of a 1.5L feed bag, delivery kit, and ENFit connector. Whether you are a healthcare worker or caregiver, understanding the correct use of this system is critical to ensuring the best outcomes for patients.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling any components of the nutrition kit.
Hang the feeding bag on a hook or stable pole, making sure it is at least 18 inches above the patient's feeding tube.
Remove the protective cap from the spike port on the feed bag.
Insert the spike into the feeding solution container, making sure to seal it tightly to prevent leakage.
Close the flow regulator on the instrument cluster by rotating it clockwise until it stops.
Open the air vent on the kit to allow air to escape while the feeding tube fills with feeding solution.
Gently press the drip chamber until it is about half full with feeding solution.
Close the air vent once the drip chamber is full.
Connect the ENFit connector to the feeding tube, making sure there is a secure connection.
Connect the instrument cluster to the ENFit connector.
Open the flow regulator on the instrument cluster by rotating it counterclockwise until the desired flow rate is achieved.
Monitor and adjust the flow rate
Monitor the flow rate regularly by observing the drip chamber. The ideal flow rate should be between 50 and 125 drops per minute.
Adjust the flow regulator as needed to maintain the desired flow rate.
Press the toolset to stop the flow of the feeding solution.
Disconnect the instrument cluster from the ENFit connector.
Disconnect the ENFit connector from the feed tube.
Dispose of the used feeding bag and kit according to your healthcare organization's guidelines.
Flush the feeding tube with water before and after each feeding to prevent clogging.
Warm the feeding solution to room temperature before administering it to promote comfort and prevent cramping.
Elevate the patient's head during feeding to reduce risk
Monitor the patient's ability to tolerate the feeding solution and adjust the flow rate or concentration as needed.
